Congratulations, you are engaged!  This is the most exciting time of your life as you start planning the wedding of your dreams.  Have you thought about having an engagement photo session?  Not only will you have photos to display at your wedding ceremony and reception or for your guest sign-in book, but it is also a great chance for us to get to know the two of you, as well as for you to get to know us and how we work behind the cameras!  We know you have questions on how to prepare for the session, so we want to share some of our thoughts with you here.

If you are thinking of getting a trial with your hair and makeup stylist, the engagement session is the perfect time for that.  Professional hair and makeup makes a significant difference in your photos as most stylists know how much makeup to apply that will look great in photos, but yet you still look natural and beautiful.  Most hair and makeup sessions last about 2 hours depending on the length of your hair and which styling you are going for – one hour is for hair styling and another hour for the makeup.  It is always best to check with the stylist prior to making your appointment.

Our engagement session is anywhere between 1 to 2 hours, which allows you to have one outfit change.  Most of our clients choose to have one casual look and another one that’s a bit dressier.  Solid neutral colors such as ivory, blush, pastels always work best, and it’s good to coordinate your outfit with your fiance’s.  If you’d like to accessorize, necklace and scarves will be perfect.  The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident in your outfit.

We always ask that you select the location for your engagement session because it’s usually a meaningful place to the two of you.  Maybe it’s a spot where you had your first date, or where your fiance proposed to you… or it could be a place where you love hanging out when you have your day off.  That makes it more special than just picking a scenic location that you are not familiar with.

The 2 hours prior to sunset is always the best lighting of the day.  It’s the softest light and it looks so dreamy and romantic.  If the weather is great, we may even get an awesome sunset as a bonus!

We love it if you want to incorporate props into your shoot that fits your style.  They are fun and may help you relax with your session too.

We want both of you to have fun during the engagement session.  When you are having fun, it will show in the photos.  We want you to laugh, giggle and have a great time with each other.  Darren and I are both easy going, and we know we’ll have a great time with you both!
